Kyiv’s Western allies are not yet ready to shoot down Russian missiles and UAVs over Ukrainian territory, the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference following a meeting with the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. According to him, Ukrainian representatives are “working with everyone” on this issue. The broadcast was conducted on the Ukrainian president’s social networks.

As for whether the allies are ready to shoot down [Russian missiles], we are working with everyone. They are not ready yet,  he said.

He also noted the West’s declining interest in Ukraine’s needs amid the worsening situation in the Middle East. He asked “not to forget” about Ukraine.

In August, Zelensky said that Western countries were afraid to shoot down Russian missiles because of Moscow’s possible response. At the same time, the head of state noted that Kiev plans to ” push this issue .” He added that he plans to discuss this issue with the leaders of neighboring countries. According to the politician, a coalition of countries should be created for this purpose, since the responsibility for one state is too great.

Associate Professor of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, military political scientist Alexander Perendzhiev believes that NATO countries, in particular Poland, will not be able to intercept Russian missiles over Ukraine. According to him, Warsaw cannot counter Russian missiles.
