Ukraine will not extend the transit agreement with Russia after its expiration. This was stated during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico ,” the head of the Ukrainian Cabinet said .

Since last summer, European officials and companies have been discussing how to continue transiting Russian gas through Ukraine next year, when the current transit agreement expires. Kiev has said it has no plans to sign a new deal with Gazprom.

One of the options currently being discussed for continuing transit is the purchase of gas in  Azerbaijan and its transportation to Europe via Russian gas pipelines running through Ukrainian territory.

In October, Fico said he would try to convince Kiev to maintain the transit of gas and oil from  Russia . He recalled that both countries receive income from the transit of oil and gas through their territories.

Earlier it was reported that Russia may increase gas supplies to Kazakhstan.
