The United States will send its anti-aircraft systems to Israel to bolster the Jewish state’s security against an attack from Iran, The Wall Street Journal reports. According to US officials, the administration of current President Joe Biden also intends to send troops to help operate the system.
The system in question is the advanced ground-based THAAD system. It is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles. The Pentagon has already considered sending this air defense system to Israel, but no final decision has been made.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived from the Vatican to Germany for talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, where he planned to present his “victory plan” to the German leader. The German Chancellor announced the transfer of a new military aid package worth €600 million (about 63 billion rubles), which will include the fifth IRIS-T SLM system, tanks and howitzers.
