15 Caribbean countries may demand compensation from the UK for damages from the slave trade, the Daily Mail reports. If the issue is considered positively, London will be obliged to pay at least 206 billion pounds (2.6 trillion rubles) in reparations.
Earlier in the US, the Boston Reparations Task Force called on “white” churches to step up and pay the black community for racial inequality that dates back to the transatlantic slave trade. The amount of payments was set at $15 billion, which is more than three times Boston’s annual budget. In fiscal year 2024, it will be $4.28 billion.
Earlier, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the West should compensate African countries for the damage caused during colonialism. According to him, Great Britain alone transported three million African slaves across the Atlantic Ocean in the 16th–19th centuries. According to some sources, this could have been “its most monstrous crime in its entire history,” the speaker of the lower house of parliament noted.
