The Korean corporation Samsung has officially recognized its foldable smartphone Galaxy Z Fold 2 as obsolete. This was reported by the publication SamMobile, which noticed an update to the section with devices on the company’s website, which lists the models that continue to receive updates and new features. The Galaxy Z Fold 2, released in the fall of 2020, is not on this list.
It is worth noting that at the time of the launch of sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung promised update support for at least three years. The latest update, One UI 5.1.1, was released at the end of 2023, after which security patches began to arrive. However, their release will soon be discontinued.
Journalists remind that the current folding flagship of the Korean brand is the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Unlike the 2020 model, this device will receive Android updates and security patches for seven years.
In the US, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 cost $2,000 at launch, making it one of the most expensive mass-produced smartphones.
Earlier it turned out that the cheap Samsung Galaxy A16 5G will be updated longer than many flagships.
