US intelligence agencies believe that if the US and its NATO partners allow Ukraine to use Western-made long-range missiles to strike Russian territory, Moscow will respond with “lethal attacks.” This was reported by The New York Times the day after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced adjustments to Russia’s nuclear doctrine. Does this mean that US President Joe Biden is seriously afraid of Moscow’s warning? Read the NEWS.ru article.
What The New York Times reported
Allowing Ukraine to strike with long-range Western-made missiles deep into Russia by the United States and its NATO allies is fraught with a harsh response from Moscow. At the same time, the military benefits to Kyiv in the event of receiving permission for such strikes are unclear, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have enough missiles supplied by Western countries – American ATACMS, British Storm Shadow and French SCALP – to cause significant damage to Russian troops.
The editor-in-chief of the magazine “Russia in Global Affairs” Fyodor Lukyanov noted that the American publication did not indicate the sources of the published information.
According to White House officials, agents of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU) are behind “most acts of sabotage in Europe ” that have taken place in recent years. In particular, Russian agents were suspected of setting fire to a warehouse in London this spring, poisoning Sergei and Yulia Skripal in 2018, exploding an ammunition depot in the Czech Republic in 2014, and other acts of sabotage.
In addition, Europe fears Russian attacks on military bases of the United States and its allies. Thus, in the spring, two people, citizens of Germany and Russia, were arrested in Germany on suspicion of preparing sabotage, including at American military facilities in the country.
