Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the contribution of the BRICS countries to the global economy has exceeded the share of the Big Seven (G7). His words at a meeting of the State Council Presidium are quoted on the Kremlin website .
“The contribution of the BRICS countries to the global economy already exceeds the share of the so-called “Big Seven” and continues to grow. The trend is growing, it is not changing,” Putin said.
On September 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that many countries, realizing the West’s unreliability, are fleeing and trying to reduce their dependence on the dollar.
Shortly before this, Burkina Faso Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kiel de Tambela, at a meeting with Russian Ambassador Igor Martynov, expressed hope for joining BRICS to combat the “dominance of the dollar and the euro.”
BRICS is an intergovernmental association that includes the Russian Federation, Brazil , India , China, South Africa, the UAE , Iran , Egypt and Ethiopia . The name comes from the English BRICS and refers to the original five members of the organization: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa. The first summit of the association was held in 2009. At the meetings, BRICS members discuss economic and geopolitical issues and establish cooperation on mutually beneficial projects.
Earlier, the Honduran Foreign Ministry assessed the likelihood of joining BRICS.
