Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is an intelligent man and an honest politician. This statement was made on October 8 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov , commenting on the politician’s statement that a missile strike on Brussels would change the discussion in the West about the supply of long-range missiles to Kiev.
“He is an intelligent, decent person, an honest politician. There are not many like him. We must listen to what he says and hear,” the Russian minister told journalists.
The Slovak Prime Minister criticized the policy of European politicians who support the idea of allowing Ukraine to launch missile strikes on Russian territory yesterday. He complained that a “perverted fashion” has emerged in Europe to applaud and enthusiastically welcome decisions that support armed conflicts.
Before that, on October 6, Fico ruled out Slovakia’s consent to Ukraine’s entry into NATO. He recalled that the membership of any state in the alliance must be ratified by all its member countries.
On August 30, at a meeting of the heads of the European Union (EU) Foreign Ministries, Slovakia spoke out against the West lifting restrictions on strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) deep into Russian territory. At the same time, France, Sweden, Latvia, the Netherlands and Poland supported the proposal to allow Ukraine to carry out such strikes.Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine amid the Russian special operation to protect Donbass , the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022 , after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, recently, the West has increasingly been making statements about the need to reduce support for Kiev.
