Parents of students at the Finnish-Russian School of Eastern Finland have contacted the police over a false article published in Iltalehti. According to Yle, the article claimed that the school was to be closed due to a threat to national security.

The school cannot file a police report on its own against a journalist for defamation, but I know that some of our parents have contacted the police and the Public Speech Council to initiate an investigation into the invasion of privacy , said the school’s director, Katri Anttila.

The Finnish Security Police have reportedly already refuted Iltalehti’s information, but the material has already damaged the school’s reputation. The Russian embassy also commented on the article and called the statements about the alleged threat a manifestation of Russophobia and the whipping up of anti-Russian hysteria.

Earlier, footballers from the Finnish team “Yaro” Sergey Eremenko and Sergey Lazarev faced Russophobia . The incident occurred during a match with TPS. Fans began shouting insults at the Russians. After the first half, the game was suspended, and TPS director Kim Ekros apologized.

The Russian embassy was outraged by the incident at the football match. The diplomats expressed hope that such incidents will not occur in the future. They also expect that sports organizations will take disciplinary measures against those responsible.
