The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on the Kursk region cannot be called a resounding triumph, the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted in an interview with The New Yorker magazine. According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in the Russian region is unlikely to help end the conflict.

At the same time, the politician gave journalists the right to decide whether the attack on the Kursk region was a “historical failure or success.” He does not care, since he is busy with current tasks.

It is too early to judge. But I do not care about historical successes. I am focused on the present , – the Ukrainian president stated.

Earlier, analyst Mark Episkopos suggested that Zelensky can no longer order the country’s armed forces to retreat from the Kursk region, because the West would regard such a move as weakness. It is now very important for Zelensky to manipulate the opinions of countries , the journalist emphasized.

Former Pentagon analyst Robert English, in turn, noted that the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region could be the final blow to the reputation of the country’s president. Due to the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the anger of citizens could reach a critical level, the expert believes.

Meanwhile, a poll conducted among Ukrainians showed that Zelensky’s popularity is falling amid the protracted conflict and the dismissal of ministers he doesn’t like. Respondents justified their choice by saying that the president “talks a lot at press conferences, but doesn’t do enough” because he is too focused on political games.
