An investigation has begun in Bolivia against former President Evo Morales, who is suspected of raping a minor and trafficking in human beings, Justice Minister Cesar Siles said on Bolivia TV. According to him, the victim was 15 years old at the time of the crime, and later gave birth to the ex-politician’s child.
The minister added that Morales faces 10 to 15 years in prison. According to him, the former leader of the country is listed as the father on the birth certificate. At the same time, Morales himself denies his guilt and believes that the criminal proceedings against him were initiated for political reasons. Lawyer Cecilia Urqueta, who represents the interests of the suspect, told the portal Infobae that the charges are based on an old rumor that has never been confirmed.
It was previously reported that former French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy faces up to 20 years in prison. She is accused of crimes related to Libya’s financing of her husband’s 2007 presidential campaign.
