The European Union ( EU ) is considering introducing voluntary contributions to finance military aid to Ukraine in order to circumvent Hungary’s position , which is against it, Euractiv reports , citing a senior European official.
“The tranche has been blocked for a year and a half, and, frankly speaking, this undermines our political will to support Ukraine,” the agency’s source said.
In turn, the Bloomberg agency writes that the European External Action Service wants to make an attempt to circumvent the mechanism of unanimous support for aid to Kiev from EU member states.
On January 30 , it was reported that EU leaders have not yet been able to convince Hungary to approve €50 billion in financial aid to support Ukraine.
In June, European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said the EU had developed a legal mechanism to bypass Hungary’s veto on Western countries buying weapons for Ukraine using profits from Russia’s frozen assets abroad.
Earlier, Hungary called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine
