In Russia, the Discord messenger, popular in the corporate IT culture and among gamers, may be blocked due to violation of the law. This was reported by the Kommersant newspaper , citing a source familiar with the situation.

According to him, this could happen “in the coming days.”

As reported by the publication, since September 20, five new decisions on violation of the law from Roskomnadzor have been issued against Discord . Such decisions may become the basis for blocking the platform under the law “On information technology and information protection.”

In September, Kommersant wrote that Discord had begun to experience disruptions in Russia. The reason was the blocking of individual pages of the site by Roskomnadzor at the request of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs .

In March 2024, Roskomnadzor included this messenger in the register of social networks, obliging it to independently find and block illegal content.

The number of registered Discord users in Russia is estimated to be between 29 million and 40 million, generating more than 4% of the platform’s monthly traffic.

Earlier, the hacker put up for sale a database of 760 thousand Discord accounts.
