The European Union has decided to punish Iran with more restrictive measures, despite calls from the new authorities to normalize relations. The reason was allegedly the supply of ballistic missiles to Moscow. The United States also imposed new sanctions against the Iranian oil sector and accused Tehran of preparing to assassinate the Republican candidate, former US President Donald Trump. Despite this, Russia and Iran plan to finalize the agreement on strategic partnership. Details are in the Izvestia article.

New restrictions

The EU is introducing new sanctions against Iran for allegedly “supplying Russia with ballistic missiles,” the DPA agency reported, citing EU diplomats. According to them, this became known after the decision of the EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg. It is particularly emphasized that the restrictive measures should affect “companies, institutions and individuals involved in the production and supply of these weapons.”

In particular, businesses will no longer be allowed to do business with companies and individuals subject to sanctions, their entry into the EU will be banned, and their assets in the European Union will be frozen.

The list includes individuals and organizations responsible for developing UAVs, missiles, and related technologies. The sanctions also include three Iranian airlines — Saha Airlines, Mahan Air, and Iran Air — two procurement firms, and two companies involved in the production of fuel used to launch missiles and projectiles.
