Residents of the United States have begun to stock up on toilet paper in large numbers amid news of a possible shortage in the country due to a strike by port workers, CNN reports. At the same time, 90% of the personal hygiene product is produced in the country, the journalists noted.

On Tuesday, social media posts about shortages showed empty shelves where toilet paper and, to a lesser extent, paper towels should have been , the article said .

As the authors of the article explained, port strikes cannot in any way affect the availability of goods on the shelves. Representatives of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) also announced the end of protests and the achievement of a temporary agreement that will last until January 15, 2025.

Earlier, the head of the analytical department of AMarkets Artem Deev warned that problems with payments from Russia to China could lead to shortages and  price increases for some goods. This applies primarily to cars and spare parts, machine tools, electronics and chips, as well as household appliances, he added. Such a scenario will only occur if the problem with payments is not resolved in the medium term, the specialist stated.
