Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Tuesday, October 8, that he has stopped following how the West discusses negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict because these are empty discussions.
“I’m not interested, I stopped following. We have, I’ve already recalled the proverb about Yemelya more than once, all this is about Yemelya,” Lavrov said.
The minister was referring to the popular expression “Speak, Yemelya, your week,” which is used when one wants to express complete distrust of everything one has heard.
Earlier in the day, the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , whose term expired on May 20, announced that a second peace summit on the Ukrainian conflict, scheduled for November, would not take place and would be replaced by thematic conferences on each point of the Ukrainian leader’s “peace formula.”
Political scientist Ivan Mezyukho, commenting on this, pointed out that Kiev was unable to change the situation on the battlefield , it failed to put itself in a position of strength and turn the second peace summit into a global ultimatum for the Russian Federation and therefore the event was cancelled. On September 25, Zelensky said that it would not be possible to resolve the conflict through peaceful negotiations . He stressed the need to use his “peace formula” and condemned those who “want to talk” with Russian President Vladimir Putin . Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the Ukrainian leader’s words a fatal mistake , the consequences of which the Kiev regime will have to face.
