The Moldovan authorities have reduced the number of polling stations in Russia for the October 20 presidential elections from five to two. This decision was made at a meeting of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which was broadcast on its Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is considered extremist and banned in Russia).

“The Central Election Commission notes the impossibility of organizing elections at polling stations No. 38/196, No. 38/197, No. 38/198 (in St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl and Khanty-Mansiysk – Ed.). The documents for organizing the elections at these three polling stations must be destroyed,” read out the resolution the chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Angela Karaman.

The document also states that the decision was made following the relevant recommendations of the Moldovan Information and Security Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stated that it was possible to ensure security for voting only on the territory of the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow .

arlier, on October 4, the head of the opposition bloc “Victory” Ilan Shor said that he was confident in the success of the opposition in the upcoming presidential elections in Moldova. Before that, he stated that the Central Election Commission of Moldova is sponsored by American and European funds . According to him, the British Embassy and other Western funds, including USAID, are interested in Moldova becoming “another military base and province of the West.”

The presidential elections will be held on October 20 , on the same day as the referendum on Moldova’s integration into the EU. According to the Constitution of Moldova, the head of state is elected for four years.
