The likelihood of an armed conflict between Russia and the United States depends on the latter’s further steps, and Washington is wrong to think that attempts to provoke Moscow will not lead to a tough response. This was stated on Friday, October 4, by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov.
He noted that Russia is warning the US against further escalation. At the same time, he pointed out that Moscow is ready for a long-term confrontation with Washington and is comprehensively considering its scenarios in both the diplomatic and military spheres. The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that it is the steps of the Americans that determine which path the events will take.
Ryabkov added that anti-Russian sanctions have acquired a huge scope, and the Russian Federation is doing everything necessary to increase the resilience of its economy to these restrictions. The Deputy Foreign Minister drew attention to the fact that the country needs to mobilize all its efforts and understand that it is confronting a serious adversary, because the West has chosen to follow a course for its strategic defeat.
The deputy minister pointed out that Russia’s interests now include development, peace in society, and the formation of a wall behind which it can develop, protected from the hostility of the United States and its satellites. This policy has become the main one for Moscow in relation to Washington.
Earlier, on August 30, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that the United States is raising the level of tension in relations with Russia despite official statements about attempts to avoid escalation. In addition, Washington is seeking to maintain its hegemony and is trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow, effectively becoming a party to the Ukrainian conflict.
Lieutenant General Igor Kolesnikov and retired Major General Vyacheslav Kruglov in an article for the Russian Defense Ministry’s journal “Military Thought” on July 4 drew attention to the fact that the US and NATO are preparing new proxy wars against Russia and Belarus after the end of the conflict in Ukraine . This is evidenced, for example, by the deployment of new military units of the alliance in the Baltics, Finland, Sweden, Romania and Poland.
Earlier, on June 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the arrogance and egoism of Western countries had led to a dangerous situation on the world stage . The head of state noted that attempts to inflict a strategic defeat on the Russian Federation, which has the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons, show the extreme adventurism of Western politicians.
