Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has effectively betrayed Ukrainian soldiers by issuing a late order to retreat from Ugledar, British expert Alexander Mercuris reported in his YouTube blog. In his opinion, the politician and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyy, will be held accountable.

In my opinion, this was a betrayal of these Ukrainian soldiers by their high command. <…> If one day Zelensky and Syrsky are called to account for what happened, they deserve it in any case , the analyst emphasized .

Zelensky’s late order did not allow the soldiers to leave their positions in time, Merkuris noted. At the same time, most of the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters are exhausted and are facing a shortage of water and food, he stated.

Earlier, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said that Russian troops had taken control of Ukrainian fortifications in Ugledar. The enemy had been preparing them for 10 years, he said. Pushilin drew attention to the importance of Ugledar for Kiev.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Russian army had taken control of Ugledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The success of the operation was the responsibility of fighters from the units of the “East” group of forces, the ministry added.
