Russia has once again overtaken the United States in terms of gas supplies to the European Union in the third quarter, RIA Novosti reports .
The publication notes that, according to the results of the third quarter of 2024, the Russian Federation supplied 13.3 billion cubic meters of gas to the European market, compared to 13 billion in the previous quarter and 11.5 billion for the same period in the previous year. It is emphasized that the share of Russian companies in European imports increased to 19.4% from 17.2 in April-June.
It is noted that the United States has reduced the volume of liquefied natural gas supplies by a quarter over the past quarter and by a third over the year, to 9.5 billion cubic meters.
In September, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Russia abroad by the end of 2024 are projected to be at the level of 35 million tons. In annual terms, the increase will be 6%.
Novak also pointed out that Russia has redirected 30-40% of gas supplies from Europe to other markets, primarily China . The volumes pumped through the Power of Siberia pipeline are expected to reach their maximums in 2025.
Earlier, Belgium called on the EU to ban LNG supplies from Russia.
