The main reason why Russians receive different salaries for the same job is the difference in their qualifications and experience, Olga Bukhvalova, a career expert at the Professions of the Future center, told Gazeta.Ru .

“Even if the length of service is the same, its quality and specificity must be taken into account. For example, two employees may have similar experience, but one of them has a narrow specialization and understands more complex things than the other. This significantly increases his value for the company, so such an employee will be paid more,” the expert explained.

She added that the level of income depends on the current situation on the labor market. In some areas, there may be a shortage of specialists, which forces companies to raise salaries to attract and retain qualified employees. Thus, even with the same positions, employees will receive different salaries, Bukhvalova said.

The third reason is the ability to negotiate salary. One employee may be more confident and persistent in their demands, while another agrees to a lower salary, the expert specified. According to her, some employees may show greater initiative and dedication to the cause compared to other colleagues. Participation in important projects or improvement of business processes may serve as a basis for a salary increase, the specialist said.

The fourth reason is that the level of income is affected by the financial capabilities of the company. Some employers can reward their employees with additional bonuses or premiums, while others have a stricter system of remuneration, Bukhvalova concluded.
