The US Army has signed a contract to supply M60 machine guns, which fell out of service decades ago, The War Zone (TWZ) reports. The weapon, known in military slang as The Pig, is notorious for its unreliability, the journalists said.

The authors noted that the “mysterious” agreement, worth about $15 million, is between the military and US Ordnance. In addition, the US Army will receive conversion kits for older M60 models. TWZ speculated that the “Pigs” could be destined for a foreign ally or partner, such as Ukraine.

Earlier, the Atlantic magazine wrote that Western weapons systems supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces are rapidly becoming obsolete against the backdrop of numerous military innovations that were created during the Ukrainian conflict. The authors of the article pointed out that any developments by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are quickly met with resistance from Russia, while Russian innovations are being created at such a pace that they are bypassing the belated defense industry of the United States and NATO.

It also became known that the US will transfer to Ukraine JSOW glide bombs without engines . Military experts characterize these munitions as long-range missiles, since the maximum range of their use with an engine reaches 560 kilometers. Without it, it does not exceed 130 kilometers.
