On September 30, the Day of Reunification of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporizhia Oblasts with the Russian Federation was celebrated on a large scale all over Russia. A gala concert was held in the center of the capital in honor of the holiday. Grigory Leps, Larisa Dolina, ST, “Lyube”, Vladimir Mashkov, Alexander F. Sklyar and many other artists performed on Red Square. But the main stars of the evening were the heroes of the SVO – soldiers and their families, doctors, volunteers, who took places of honor in the front rows. About how the concert went, personal stories of the soldiers and a proposal of marriage to the heart of the capital – in the report of “Izvestia”.

Concert-rally on Red Square

Despite the cold snap in the capital, there was not a single empty seat in the spectator stalls opposite St. Basil’s Cathedral. The honorable seats were occupied by the families of servicemen and members of the SVO. While the guests were gathering, the artists were preparing for the performance behind the scenes. The musicians of the symphony orchestra warmed up and stocked up on thermal underwear. But it is inconvenient to play in gloves, so their hands were still freezing. The girls from the combined choir of music schools and art schools of the Luhansk and Donetsk republics were shaking, but they were ready to endure it for the sake of their first performance on Red Square.

— We sing with Larisa Dolina, Mia Boyko and Askar Abdrazakov. It is a great honor for us! We represent Lugansk and are proud of our city . Despite the fact that sometimes we are shot, we do not want to leave our homeland, — the girls shared.

At the same time, People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Steklov was preparing for the performance.

“I have many friends here today,” he told Izvestia. “ If in 2021 we still went to the DPR and LPR, as they say, to visit, now they are visiting us, and we are going to them as real fellow countrymen.”

Lenkom artist Mark Zakharov Anton Shagin recently released his second collection of poems, “Pedometer,” which includes civic lyrics and poems about the SVO.

“But for the concert I have prepared some heartfelt poetry by Sergei Lobanov,” Shagin shared with Izvestia. “These are very powerful lines that are worth hearing.”

Sergey Lobanov is a frontline soldier who admits that poems come to him from above. He writes them on the front lines.
