The Georgian government positively evaluates the words of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov about the readiness to help Tbilisi to get closer to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said the head of the ruling party “Georgian Dream”, the mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze. According to him, as quoted by Mtavari, it is time to start taking active steps.
He added that after such statements it is time to take “effective steps.” In particular, Kaladze proposed to begin developing a plan for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The head of the ruling party promised that the Georgian government would do everything to reconcile “with our Ossetian brothers and sisters.” According to him, only “through peace and mutual forgiveness can we restore territorial integrity and coexist.”
The day before, Lavrov said that the Russian Federation is ready to help Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the process of normalizing relations. He explained that the countries themselves should be interested in this process. Including in the context of ensuring non-aggression agreements.
