The large share of foreign films compared to last year did not help Russian cinemas increase their revenue. This is the conclusion reached by the Kommersant newspaper based on data from the Unified Federal Automated Information System (UAIS) of the Cinema Fund.
During the first week of autumn, cinema revenue in Russia amounted to about 263 million rubles, while last year in the same period cinemas earned 260 million rubles.
“Overall, attendance at Russian cinemas in June-August increased from 19.7 million people last year to 20.2 million in 2024. Market participants noted that the results were achieved mainly due to shadow distribution films, in particular, Inside Out 2, Deadpool and Wolverine,” the newspaper reports.
The reason why cinemas cannot increase their revenue is said to be the decline in attendance at cinemas. Inflation and rising ticket grew prices are also not helping.
Before this, the income of Russian online cinemas grew by 42% over six months.
Earlier, Russians were offered to invest in the film industry.
