A quality bottle of Russian wine in a store should not cost less than 500 rubles. This was stated to RIA Novosti by Shamil Aliyev, chief winemaker of the Derbent Vino company, which is part of the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia .
According to the expert, “a fair price for good domestic wine is no less than 500 rubles.” However, in retail you can also find wines for 200 rubles, since winemakers are sometimes forced to sell their products without profit in order to get on store shelves.
He also explained that more than half of the cost of a bottle is accounted for by elements such as the label, bottle, cork and logistics. Russian winemaking still depends on imports at some stages: for example, corks come from Spain and Portugal , Aliyev specified.
Although winemakers do not face problems with importing materials, their prices have increased significantly – corks have become several times more expensive. These increased costs, along with the growth of excise taxes, some companies are forced to pass on to the end consumer.
