The agency launched the approval process for Russian lentils to enter the Indian market at the end of 2020. A year later, the Indian National Plant Protection Organization presented the quarantine phytosanitary requirements that lentils must meet and authorized the import of trial lots. Russia began supplying them in 2022.
Laboratory tests conducted by Indian specialists showed that Russian lentils meet all phytosanitary requirements, and therefore permanent supplies of this agricultural product from the Russian Federation were permitted .
At the end of May, Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Anton Karmazin said that Russia had supplied a record 500 thousand tons of legumes to the Indian market since the beginning of 2024. Legumes include peas, chickpeas, soybeans, beans, lentils and other crops.
In April, the head of the federal center “Agroexport” Dmitry Krasnov reported that the supply of sunflower oil from Russia to India in 2023 doubled compared to the previous year. At the same time, over the past three years, the supply of products of the Russian agro-industrial complex to India has increased by 3.5 times, Krasnov noted.
