How Pashinyan is burning bridges in relations with Russia
Independence Day in Armenia is celebrated on September 21. On this day in 1991, a referendum was held in the republic, in which the majority of Armenians voted to leave the USSR. Usually, ceremonial events were held in Yerevan on this day – the presentation of state awards, concerts in Yerevan squares, a military parade. However, after the defeat in the battles in Karabakh in 2016, the authorities refrained from holding a parade.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Friday met with a delegation from Washington, led by US Deputy Secretary of State Joshua Huck.
Pashinyan emphasized the role of the United States in institutional reforms and infrastructure projects. In turn, Hak promised to continue to support democratic reforms in Armenia, in particular to expand programs through USAID. Then, Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan discussed with Hak his country’s negotiation process with neighboring Azerbaijan.
