Director Nikita Mikhalkov announced the creation of the Eurasian film award “Diamond Butterfly”, which is an analogue of the “Oscar”, reports a NEWS.ru correspondent. The first awards ceremony will take place in October 2025. The prize for the best film is $1 million. The announcement video says that any country that shares traditional values and thinks about the future of art can take part in the film award.
We believe that true art is based on compassion and love, because any truth without love is a lie. All countries that are in tune with the values of the academy and are ready to build a common future can participate in the competition , – the announcement says.
Earlier, the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced that he had awarded Mikhalkov the title of Honored Artist of Chechnya . Earlier, the filmmaker arrived in Grozny as part of the All-Russian Festival of National Theaters “Federation”.
The head of Chechnya also reported that he had a warm conversation with the director. He, in turn, recalled that Chechnya is the birthplace of his cinematography: Mikhalkov’s debut film, “A Stranger Among Strangers, a Stranger Among His Own,” was filmed near Grozny and in the outskirts of Baku.
